At the same time, China is also preparing to respond to the brick with stone. China announced that it would impose strict prohibition on the export of seven special and essential rare meaning elements. These rare elements can greatly affect the supply chain around the world.
These elements are very important for America
According to the report, the elements that have been banned are- Samrium, Gadolinium, Terbium, DisproSium, Lutetium, Scandium and Yitrium. These metals are very important in creating military techniques like electric vehicles, smartphones, fighter jets, missiles and satellites. The rare-limited elements that China are stopping exports are very important for the US. These are the same metals on which former President Donald Trump emphasized that America should not depend on them to strengthen its industrial supply chain.
China is the biggest supplier
Beijing announced on Friday that China is now stopping exports of certain rare metals abroad immediately. These include elements such as samrium, gadolinium, terbium, dysproosium, lutetium, scandium and yitrium. According to the American Geological Survey, China is the largest supplier of these metals, which produces about 70% of the world’s total needs.
Very important for defense and technology
These new export rules of China are similar to that of Germanium and Gallium last year. Both these elements are also considered very important for defense and technology. Now the new list released can affect many US companies. Because these rare metals are used in optical laser, radar machines, powerful magnets for wind turbines, jet engine coating and new technology communication services.
According to the USGS (American Geological Survey), Rare Earth Elements are found in good amounts on the surface of the Earth but the places where they can be easily extracted are very few. According to an estimate, the reserves of these elements in North America are quite large – about 36 million tonnes of rare soil resources in the US and more than 1 million tonnes in Canada.
