Washington: US President Donald Trump is engaged in bowing to countries of the world through tariff. Many countries are gradually beginning to obey Trump. Pakistan has also started trapping in the trap by giving pressure of America tariff. America now wants its treasure from Pakistan. The same treasure that was still seeking Trump Ukraine. The name of this treasure is the rare meaning minerals i.e. rare minerals found in the earth. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday discussed the possibility of tariffs, business relations, immigration and cooperation on minerals with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The Foreign Ministry of the two countries has issued separate statements for this.
Both have a conversation at a time when the Trump administration imposed a 29 percent tariff on Pakistan. The question is whether this discussion will give relief to Pakistan or will increase its difficulty? President Trump announced last week that the US would impose 10 % baseline tariffs on all imports and high rates on dozens of countries. Trump has also targeted countries which have traditionally been a partner of India. These decisions have shook the global business badly. 29 percent of tariffs on Pakistan are also part of this. According to the US Trade Representative office, the US-Pakistan trade deficit in 2024 was $ 3 billion, which is 5.2 percent more than 2023.
America wants minerals
The US State Ministry said, ‘Rubio and Dar discussed the US counter -tariff on Pakistan. Both spoke on progress towards a fair and balanced business relationship. During this time, the US Secretary of State expressed the possibility of cooperation on important minerals and increasing commercial opportunities for the American company. Trump administration also wants to cooperate with other countries with minerals. For example, Trump is seeking rare minerals from Ukraine in exchange for American help in the Russia-Ukraine war. Mineral partnership has also been talked about ending the struggle in the Congo.
Preparation to compete with China?
The question is also whether Pakistan is not preparing to compete with China by partnering in the mineral sector? Because China has increased its influence in Pakistan through CPEC. Apart from this, Rubio sought cooperation from Dar on law enforcement and illegal immigration. Recently, Pakistan also showed cooperation against terrorism with America. In 2021, Pakistan handed over Mohammad Sharifullah responsible for the bomb blast at Kabul Airport to the US.
