The Russian space agency Roscosmos said on Saturday that a Soviet space sample that was to fly in March 1972, crashed in Venus in the Indian Ocean.
Planetary Lander Cosmos 482 never made it on Earth’s sister planet as it was dragged by a course after a malfunction in the upper stage of its launch vehicle.
What do we know about Russian rehearsal?
Rososmos reported that the spacecraft, known as Cosmos 482, hired the Earth’s atmosphere at 0624 GMT/UTC and hit the ocean in the west of Indonesia. There was no immediate report of damage or the debris was recovered.
The European Space Agency independently supported the conclusion of Rososmos that the re-entry took place.
Kosmos 482 was part of the Soviet Union’s ambitious Venera program, which sent several investigations to Venus between 1961 and 1983.
The mission was to distribute a lander equipped with scientific devices, including a gamma-ray spectrometer, photometer and atmospheric sensor to study the surface and atmosphere of the Venus.
What went wrong with Cosmos 482?
While several venera investigations successfully transmitted data from the surface of Venus, Cosmos 482 closed immediately after its launch.
The upper stage of the launch vehicle meant a technical accident, known as Venera 4, which had never left the Earth’s orbit and slowly remained in a highly egg -orbit around the Earth for more than half a century before landing.
About 500 kg spacecraft, to measure about one meter of diameter, was closely tracked by space agencies, which was related to potential hazards at the retirement.
Experts had previously warned of its strong construction – it was designed to avoid the rigid environment of Venus – the probe could deactivate the Earth’s surface to a great extent.
However, Rososmos said, “Cosmos 482 is no longer present.”
Russia has stated that it plans to launch a new, long-term mission for Venus, known as Venera-D or Venera 17, which marks the continuity of the Soviet-e-A-A-E-E-program program.
While Venus is about the same size of the earth, it is somewhat called “evil twins”. Extreme temperature, crushed pressure, poisonous environment, corrosive clouds, and acute geological activity makes it one of the most disqualified environment in our solar system.
