An order was removed on Saturday, which limited about 160,000 people in the Northhesters Catalonia region of Spain, caused a toxic cloud of chlorine after an industrial property fire, the regional government said.

Blaze in a swimming pool cleaning products firm, starting from 2:20 in local time (0020 GMT), 48 km (30 mi) south of Barcelona in the city of Wilanova I La Geltra.

The authorities had asked people to stay at home in the affected area, later approved.

“If you are in the area that is affected, do not lead your home or your work space,” the Civil Protection Service posted the first X on Saturday.

“No casualties” were reported, the fire service said on social media, saying that it had deployed a large number of units to manage the situation.

‘Toxic level’

The fire service said that it was “monitoring the explosion … for its toxic levels”.

“It is very difficult to catch the fire for chlorine, but it is very difficult to exclude the fire for chlorine,” the owner of the warehouse, George Vinellus Alonso told the radio station Rac1. He said that the cause of the explosion could be lithium battery.

Willanova’s mayor Juan Luiz Lopez had earlier told public broadcaster TVE that the officials would once raise an emergency measure to destroy “toxic clouds”.
