Bank Holiday on Buddha Purnima Monday 12 May 2025: On Monday, May 12, 2025, banks will remain closed in many cities of the country on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. However, bank branches will remain open in many states. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the bank holiday under the ‘Negotiable Instruments Act’ on this day.

Banks will be closed in these cities

Bank -closing cities include Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Srinagar.

Where banks will be open

However, banks will be generally open in many other cities of the country. These include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Imphal, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, Patna, Shillong and Thiruvananthapuram.

No effect on digital banking

In cities where banks will remain closed, customers can also do their financial transactions through UPI, IMPS, Net Banking and Mobile App. Digital service will be completely operational, which will not affect the work like transfer, bill payment, balance check.

The stock markets are open on the day of Buddha Purnima i.e. May 12. Stock markets do not close on Buddha Purnima. Both BSE and NSE have equity, equity derivatives and normal trading in the SLB segment. However, there will be no trading in the currency derivative segment and BSE has declared this day as Settlement Holiday.

When is the next stock market holiday?

The next stock market holiday will be held on 15 August 2025 (Independence Day).

26 May (Monday): Kazi Nazrul Islam Jayanti – Bank closed in Agartala

May 29 (Thursday): Maharana Pratap Jayanti – Bank closed in Shimla

Apart from this, banks will remain closed on Sunday (18 and 25 May) and second and fourth Saturday (24 May) of the month.
