India President Donald Trump has begun to show the impact of India’s strict reaction to the offering of arbitration on the Kashmir issue. The US State Ministry has changed its stand on the issue, saying that it encourages the direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and praises the Prime Ministers of the two countries for choosing the path of peace.
The head of the Ministry of External Affairs Thomas Pigot said at the press conference, “We welcome the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and praise Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for choosing this peace.” President Trump has also described it as a symbol of ‘intelligence and courage’.
Emphasis on direct conversation, silence on mediation
Pigot said that America’s focus is on maintaining a ceasefire and promoting direct talks between the two countries. They said,
‘We will not predict when the two countries will talk, but we have always said that direct talks are the way forward.’
India gave a befitting reply
In fact, President Trump had spoken of helping in collaborating the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan. New Delhi has reacted sharply to these statements. The Government of India clearly stated that no third party has any role on the Kashmir issue, and the only pending issue between India and Pakistan is to vacate the Indian regions of Pakistan.
India also clarified that there has been no discussion on issues like trade with America or any ‘nuclear blackmail’. New Delhi, giving a series of incidents, told how Pakistan appealed to the ceasefire after the Indian attacks.
India’s discomfort over Trump’s statement
Trump said on Saturday that his efforts averted the nuclear war, he described himself as an intermediary and claimed that if India and Pakistan establish peace, America would trade extensive business with both countries. But India has denying all these points in detail and made it clear that it will not accept any external arbitration or pressure.
However, there was no clear support from the US to Trump’s “arbitration” claim. Pigot only said that
‘President is a pro -peace, he is a’ dealmaker ‘, and he has always tried to end the struggles around the world.’
The US did not even say that it made a ‘ceasefire agreement’, but insisted that their focus is that there should be peace between India and Pakistan and there should be direct talks.
America has tried to balance its stand after India’s opposition. While Trump kept calling himself a ‘peace messenger’ in his statement, the US State Ministry made it clear that his priority on a sensitive issue like Kashmir is only dialogue and ceasefire, not any forcible arbitration.
