Apple will increase iPhone 17 Pro models in India despite Donald Trump’s objection

Apple is increasing the production of its upcoming iPhone 17 series in India this year to meet American demand. This matter has come to know from the people who know about the case. This is an indication that even though US President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the expansion of Apple’s manufacturing in India, there is no change in the company’s expansion plans. India’s role in Apple’s global supply chain strategy is increasing.

A source told Moneycontrol, “The scale of Pro models of the upcoming iPhone 17 series will be held this year as Apple plans to fulfill most of the iPhone demand from India. The demand for iPhone Pro models is the highest in the US. In addition, the demand for Pro models is increasing in India, so the scale-up is being done.”

Trial production of iPhone 17 series starts in India

The source said that Apple’s largest contract manufacturing partner in India will increase the production of the iPhone 17 Pro model. Foxconn has started trial production of the iPhone 17 series in India. Tata Electronics is also involved in trial production of components such as Casing for the new lineup. Apple started creating the top of the line iPhone Pro models at its Sriperumbdur plant in Tamil Nadu through Foxconn last year.

Another person said that 50-60% of the total demand for iPhone in the US is of Pro model, while in India the figure is around 20%. This figure is also expected to increase in 2025.

Donald Trump has asked Apple CEO Tim Cook to stop production of iPhone in India and create iPhone in the US instead. Apple does not produce smartphones in America right now. Most of its iPhone are made in China. India produces about 4 crore units annually, which is about 15 percent of Apple’s annual production. According to news agency PTI, soon after Trump’s statement in Doha, the capital of Qatar, the Government of India officials spoke to Apple officials. He has assured the administrative officials of India that Apple’s investment plans for India remain intact.

The US President said at the trade round table conference in Doha that he told Tim Cook, ‘I don’t want you to manufacture in India. If you want to take care of India, then you can manufacture in India. Trump suggested that Apple may make its products in India for the Indian market. But the ‘Made in India’ iPhone being sold in America will have to be stopped.
