A low-profile dialogue between the Russian and the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul, Türkiye is expected to begin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who proposed talks, does not want.
His Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimier Zelansky, has already arrived in Türkiye and met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.
Zelansky confirmed that he would not participate in a conversation with Russian officials. Instead, he is sending a delegation headed by Defense Minister Rustom Umrov.
