A Mexican Navy training sailing sailing sailing collided with Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday during a promotional tour in New York City.
The top of the three masts of the ship slipped into the prestigious period, partially collapsed with the boat swimming in the eastern river.
According to a statement by Mexican Navy, at least 22 people were injured in the accident, three seriously.
The statement said, “No personnel were not in water, so it was not necessary to activate the rescue operation.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said 19 people were injured in the accident, four of them were seriously injured, but the 142 -year -old bridge was saved from major damage. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
What else do we know about the accident?
Several eyewitness videos captured the masting and collapse partially as the bridge crashed into the deck of the bridge. At the time of the collision, the video showed heavy traffic on the bridge.
The ship then moved towards the banks of the river as the audience ran away from the shore. The sailors can be seen in rigging on damaged masts.
The New York Post Told that the victims were taken to local hospitals.
For several US media reports, around 200 people were riding on the Cuauhtemoc, which was at that time built in 1982 with a mast height of 48.2 meters (158 ft).
Cuauhtemoc was at the time on a training masuver and was damaged in “accident” according to a separate statement of the Mexican Navy on X.
