Washington: The horrific explosion near a fertility clinic in California’s luxurious city of Palm Springs at 11 am on Saturday morning shocked the entire area. One person died in this incident, while four others were injured. The US investigating agency FBI has called it a ‘deliberate terrorist attack’. The explosion was so powerful that along with the clinic, many nearby buildings also suffered heavy damage. Akil Davis, head of the Los Angeles Office of FBI, told a press conference on Saturday evening that the fertility clinic, called American Reproductive Centers, was deliberately targeted.

However, the motive behind the attack is not yet clear. Davis said, ‘Our teams are investigating it thoroughly.’ The dead person has not been identified yet, and it is also not clear whether he was an attacker or not. Davis made it clear that the police are not looking for any other suspect at the moment. Two officials associated with the investigation said on the condition of anonymity that the dead person was probably the same, who carried out the explosion, but the investigation is still in the initial stage.

Burned car found

Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills said in a statement, “This seems to be a well -planned violent incident.” Initial investigation may cause a car bomb due to the explosion. A burnt car was found at the scene, which is believed to have a direct connection with the explosion. FBI has deployed its bomb experts and the team collecting evidence on the spot. Apart from this, experts from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are also investigating.

The owner of the clinic surprised

According to the report by news agency AP, Dr. Maher Abdullah, owner of American Reproductive centers, said on the phone that the office space of the clinic was completely destroyed by the explosion, where patients were consulted. However, the IVF lab and the embryos stored there are completely safe. Expressing relief, he said, ‘Thankfully there was no patient in the clinic on Saturday. All our employees are also safe. Dr. Abdullah also said that he did not yet understand how and why this incident happened.

People shaken by blast

How big the blast was can be gauged from the statements of eyewitnesses. 47 -year -old Rhino Williams said, ‘I was talking to customers. Then a strong explosion took place. Everything was shaken. I immediately ran out. The debris was scattered on the road and the front of a car was burning. The glass of a liquor shop nearby was also broken. Local people say that after the explosion, there was a strong smell of plastic and rubber burning in the area.
