Ali Khan mahmudabad bail: The Supreme Court granted an interim bail to Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad of Ashoka University on Wednesday (May 21), arrested for alleged objectionable posts on social media regarding ‘Operation Sindoor’. But refused to ban the investigation against him. The apex court questioned the selection of words of Professor Ali Khan. The court said that these words were used to humiliate others, to make uncomfortable. A Sonepat court sent Mahmudabad to judicial custody till 27 May on Tuesday.
According to PTI, a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh directed Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) to form a three -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of an IG rank officer within 24 hours to investigate the case, including a female officer of SP rank.
The bench, who investigated the online post of the Department of Professor of Political Science at Ashoka University in Sonepat, questioned the selection of their words, saying that they were used to deliberately humiliate or make others uncomfortable.
The bench told senior advocate Kapil Sibal that although everyone has the right to freedom of expression. But the statements of Mahmudabad are called Dog whisling (with secret messages to get support) in the eyes of the law.
Justice Suryakant said during the hearing, “When there were so many things happening in the country, where did he have the opportunity to use such words, which could be derogatory and uncomfortable to others. He is a learned person, it cannot be said that he lacks words.”
The bench banned the professor from writing another online post on the recent Indo-Pakistan struggle and asked them to cooperate in the SIT investigation. The Supreme Court has directed to release Mahmudabad arrested on interim bail in connection with the alleged objectionable post.
On May 19, on behalf of Associate Professor Mahmudabad, Kapil Sibal requested an immediate hearing on it, referring to the case before the bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai. After two FIRs were registered against Mahmudabad by Haryana Police, he was arrested on 18 May.

He is accused that his social media posts about ‘Operation Sindoor’ threatened the country’s sovereignty and integrity. Mahmudabad was produced in a local court in Sonepat on 18 May and was sent to two days police custody in the case filed on a complaint by Haryana State Women’s Commission (HSCW) a day earlier. On Tuesday, the Sonepat court sent him to judicial custody till 27 May after the completion of the police custody period.
