Delhi airport: The duty free liquor shop on Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi is constantly facing problems. Lack of employees, major fall in sales and lack of stock have put the shop in crisis. The shop is operated by the Delhi Consumer Co-operative Wholesale Store Limited (DCCWS). According to The Indian Express, the Airport Athority expressed displeasure by sending an email to DCCWS regarding the problem in operating the shop. It has been reported in the email that the limited entry and operational problems of the employees have affected shop trade and customers’ experience.
Let us tell you, this walk-in, self-service liquor shop on IGI T-3 is the only shop of its kind at the airport that provides service to both domestic and international passengers.
Entry pass renewal increased problem due to lateness
Sources associated with the case said that earlier this month, the shop was closed for a few days due to non -renewal being renewed with the employees of Licker Shop. The note pasted outside the closed shop wrote that, ‘The shop has been closed due to lack of airport entry pass.’ Later, an official of the Excise Department confirmed that the entry passes and identity cards of the employees working at the liquor shop were not renewed, due to which the shop had to be closed for a few days. However, it was later resolved. Despite resuming the shop operating, the shop is constantly facing challenges.
According to the report of the express, there has been a sharp decline in the sale of this shop in recent few months. The shop’s daily average sales have come down from Rs 3.04 lakh in January to Rs 2.20 lakh in May. Although the average of daily sales in the month of March was Rs 3.52 lakh which shows an increase in sales in this month, but its next month figures decreased.
The shop remained closed for 2 years
The Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi brought a new liquor policy which was in controversies. The policy was later canceled. The effect of this was that the liquor shop running on T-3 was closed, which was closed for almost two years. Later, liquor retail sales in Delhi have come under the control of Ltd. Co-operative Wholesale Store Limited (DCCWS). Last year, this shop was reopened under DCCWS which is open round the clock.
