There is a fierce battle between NSE and BSE over the expiry day. In a special conversation with our managing editor Anuj Singhal, BSE MD & CEO Sundarman Ramamurthy has said that no proposal has been made to SEBI from BSE on the expiry day. SEBI has released a consultation paper on expiry. BSE has not applied for its behalf. BSE has not demanded a particular day. Have given their opinion to SEBI. Responding to this, he said that futures trading started in BSE only two years ago. Friday was selected in compulsion for expiry. When SEBI asked for opinion, members have come in favor of Tuesday. Expiry has been started on Tuesday with the approval of SEBI.

Does the day of expiry a difference?

In response, Sundarman said that Monday or Friday’s expiry may make a difference. Risk may increase in the expiry after weekend. If there is any major action in the verse, there may be a problem. The Sensex used to have a big volume only on Friday. Tuesday’s expiry is being formed for several weeks. The NSE mature products do not mind the day of expiry.

What is the roadmap of BSE on derivatives?

Sundarman said that banking -related derivative products will remain. It will take time to get a volume in the monthly expiry. People had got used to week expiry.
