Power outage hits the ear field during Film Fest – DW – 05/24/2025

On the last day of the Cannes Film Festival, on Saturday, a major power outage was killed in the area around the French Riviera resort in Cannes.

Power cuts started due to fire in a substation in the village near Tannaron due to local time (8:00 pm GMT). The police believe that the reason for this was probably arson attack.

However, the police spokesperson was uncontrolled to say what is the relationship between the incident and the film festival.

The French media reported that one toran fell on a high-voltage power line in the morning. It is not yet clear whether the incident had a criminal background.

According to the grid operator RTE, the power outage affected 160,000 houses in the ear and the surrounding area.

The Glitzi Holiday Destination has been hit by power outage, causing traffic lights to fail and lead to traffic jams. The shops were closed on one of the main roads.

The teams of RTE and supplier Nadis are working to restore the network. It is still not clear when the power will return, the French media cited RTE.

Festive outage is not impressed

The Cannes Film Festival organizers said that the closing ceremony would not be affected by the power outage.

The festival announced that “alternative power was switched to power supply, which enables us to employ plan and screening under normal conditions, including the closing ceremony.”

However, morning screening in the festival cinemas was briefly interrupted, while the supply was converted into a generator.

At the closing ceremony, the French actress Juliet Binoche, starting from 16:40 GMT and her jury will announce the winners of the festival’s top prices. This year, twenty -two films are competing for Palme D’Or.
