Cambodia’s army said on Wednesday that a Cambodian soldier was killed during clashes during a clash with the Thai army.
Cambodian Royal Army spokesman Mao Falla said, “One of our soldiers died during a fight, and some injuries occurred, but we have not yet detailed figures.”
Border clash lasted for 10 minutes
Fallla confirmed “there were clashes” here, “but said the Thai soldiers attacked the Cambodian soldiers, which were on a regular border patrol in the North Priya Vihier province, which is the limit of Ubo Shakani from Thai.
“Our soldier died in trenches. This came to attack us,” he alleged.
At the same time, the royal army of Thailand said that Cambodian soldiers struggled after the first firing.
The Thai Army said in a statement that the soldiers had fired back in response to the fire from the border force of Cambodia.
It was said, according to the statement of the Thai Army, the exchange was exchanged about 10 minutes before Cambodians requested a ceasefire.
Thai Defense Minister Fummtham Vichayachai said the situation was solved and the two sides did not intend to set fire on each other.
Historical border dispute
Neighbors have disputed their border for a long time – extending more than 800 kilometers (500 mi) – mainly installed during the French occupation of Indochina.
In 2008, the bloody military clashes entered the site of an ancient Khmer temple in Preh Viyar prevalent near the border.
The International Court of Justice earlier ruled in 1962 that the disputed area belonged to Cambodia.
