Israel announced the expansion of West Bank settlements – DW – 05/29/2025

Israel announced on Thursday that it would be an Estavorian to 22 settlements in the occupied West Bank, which includes legalizing outots without authority.

The move is likely to further pursue relations with the Allies, which are important for Israel’s functions in Gaza.

Israeli settlements at West Bank are illegal under international law, and the United Nations top court called last year to stop construction – a ruling ruling by Israel.

The announcement is as human rights groups and anti-Nipatan NGOs, saying that the Israel is at least moving towards the Palestinian region moving towards annexation.

What is Israel said about settlements?

Far-wide Finance Minister Bezellal Smotrich, who is a hemler, and Defense Minister Israel Katj, who is in charge of the management of the communities, announced.

Smotrich said on X, “We have taken a historic decision for the development of settlements: 22 new communities in Judea and Samaria, renewing the township in the north of Samaria and strengthening the eastern axis of the state of Israel,”

“Next step: sovereign!” He said: “We have not taken a foreign land, but the legacy of our ancestors.”

Katz said the decision to settle “strengthens our hold on Judea and Samaria, anchor our historical rights in the Israeli land, and Palestinian forms a crushed reaction to terrorism.”

He added it, “a strategic step that prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state that will endanger Israel.”

In a statement by Telegram, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right -wing Likud Party said the initiative was led by Smotrich and Katz.

Israel has already constructed more than 100 settlements in the entire region which are 500,000.

What has been the reaction to the announcement?

The Palestinian Authority, which is the center of population centers in the occupied West Bank, prepared the move as a “dangerous growth”.

Nabil Abu Rudinah, a spokesman of Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas, said, “This extremist Israeli government is trying in every way to stop the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.”

Human Rights Group Shanti Hash now said that the move shows that the Israeli government aims to enter the area.

“The Israeli government no longer pretends to be pretending to be: Annexation and expansion of settlements of occupation areas are its central goal.”

It said that this step “will reopen the West Bank dramatically and will come further.”

Earlier this month, Britain, France and Canada threatened to implement targeted sanctions if Israel continued to expand the settlements. Some settlers have already been approved in the past to attack Palestinians in West Bank.

Obstruction of two-state solution

Israel has carried forward with rapid settling construction in recent years, which means 3 million Palestinians living in the area are sometimes re -established in small areas.

This makes the state the possibility of installing independent Palestinian state even more remote.

Israel captured the West Bank with Gaza and Eastern Jerusalem in the six-day 1967, and the Palestinian wants all three regions for the future state.

An international conference led by France and Saudi Arabia at the United Nations Headquarters in New York next month means that the two state solutions to the Israeli-Pilstinian conflict to breathe new life in view of the solution.

But Thursday’s announcement, and recent suggestions by major data in the Israeli government established settlements in the Gaza Strip, weighing against the possibility of discovery in the near future.
