Sharmishtha panoli: Sharmistha Panoli, a 22 -year -old Law student from Pune, has been arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram. He is accused of making ‘derogatory and disrespect’ comments, allegedly targeting a particular religious community on social media related to ‘Operation Sindoor’. What is the whole matter?
Sharmishtha Panoli posted a video on Instagram. The video had objectionable and derogatory comments in response to an update on ‘Operation Sindoor’. This video became increasingly viral and spread widespread outrage. According to the police, this video had a ‘derogatory and disrespectful’ comments to a particular religious community. Following this incident, a formal complaint was lodged at a police station in Kolkata, after which an FIR was lodged against Sharmistha Panoli under sections related to promoting violence and hurting religious sentiments.
A police officer said, “A case was launched in relation to an Instagram video of Sharmishtha Panoli, which hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community.” He said that the content of the video violates the provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
Sharmishtha apologized after the controversy escalated
After a dispute over the video, Sharmishtha Panoli publicly apologized through social media. He wrote on X, ‘Whatever was said was my personal feelings and I did not deliberately wanted to hurt anyone. If someone is hurt, I apologize for him. From now on, I will be cautious in my public post. ‘ After the video went viral, he also faced trolling and threats. Sharmishtha had allegedly removed objectionable posts from Instagram and apologized for her comments on Instagram as well as X.
After the dispute, Panoli made her Instagram account private and removed all the posts from her second handle. In the story highlight of May 15, he issued an unconditional apology, stating that his intention was never to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.
How was the arrest?
At first several attempts were made to give a legal notice to Sharmishtha Panoli, but he and his family were found missing. After these efforts failed, a court issued an arrest warrant against him, after which the police tracked him from Gurugram and arrested him. He was produced in Gurugram court and brought to Kolkata on transit remand. Panoli is expected to be produced in Kolkata Court on 31 May, where further legal proceedings will decide the direction of the case.
