US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has given serious warnings about China. At the annual Shangari-La Dialogue Security Conference held in Singapore, the Pentagon Chief said that China is now preparing to change the power and balance of the region in a reliable manner through strength and this danger can be ‘real’.
Hegseth said, “China’s threat is real and it can be revealed anytime. Beijing is trying to take the whole of Asia in ‘control and dominance’.” He alleged that the Chinese army is practicing every day to attack Taiwan and ‘preparing for real war’.
Pentagon Chief’s appeal to India
While participating in the Shangri-La dialogue for the first time under the Trump administration, Hegseth appealed to America’s Asian allies to increase defense spending. Describing the US military partnership with Japan, the Philippines and India as deeper, he said that the United States is now making a full move towards preventing the aggression of the Communist China. Along with this, he said, ‘We are increasing defense cooperation with India.’

He said, ‘This may seem a bit strange, but due to Trump, Asian countries should now learn from European countries. NATO countries, even Germany have committed to increase their defense budget to 5% of GDP. In such a situation, it is not appropriate to stay behind the important partners of Asia.
‘China will be under control under Trump’
Hegseth asked Europe to focus on the security of its region, so that America could focus more on dealing with China’s threat in Asia. He also said, ‘We have not come here to force anyone to adopt our political or ideological model. We respect your traditions, armies and sovereignty and want cooperation in shared interests.

Hegseth also gave a strict message about Taiwan. He said that if China attacks Taiwan, then its results will be destructive to the Indian and the whole world. He reiterated Trump’s statement, saying, “China cannot attack Taiwan while Trump.”
China considers Taiwan its part
In fact, China considers Taiwan as its part and has been constantly threatening that if needed, it will force it. At the same time, Taiwan’s government rejects China’s claim and says that only the people there can decide their future.
According to the new report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies at the Shangri-La dialogue, the expenditure on arms and defense research in Asian countries is increasing. The average Asian countries in 2024 were 1.5% of GDP, which has been stable in the last decade.
