It is that the chosen number was not random. In Japanese culture, number 8 (八, Hachi) has a positive and auspicious connotation. This is due to its graphic shape: Kanji’s strokes open to the sides, which is symbolically interpreted as expansion, growth or prosperity. Unlike other numbers that may have negative meanings (such as 4 or 9), 8 is considered good luck in contexts such as businesses, celebrations and numerology.
In the Japanese language, number 8 is phonetically neutral: Hachi is pronounced, without direct associations with negative words, unlike 4 (shi, which sounds like “death”) or 9 (Ku, which may sound as “pain” or “suffering”). This reinforces its use in names of products, brands and room numbers or telephone when it seeks to transmit a positive image.
As reported by cryptootics, in May, Metaplenet had come to accumulate 5,555 bitcoin, a figure that in Japanese reads “go, go, go, go, go” (sound that, in English, is interpreted as “come on, come on, come on, come on, come on!”).
