After the inauguration of this world’s highest railway bridge, PM Katra-Srinagar Vande will also flag off the train service. Trains from here will soon run at a high speed in the plains of Kashmir. This railway bridge is built at an altitude of 359 meters and is 1,315 meters long. Chinab Bridge is the highest railway Arch bridge in the world and is an important part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh gave this information on the social media platform X (first Twitter) on Tuesday. He wrote, “History is being made. There are only 3 days left! The world’s highest railway bridge, powerful Chenab Bridge, is proudly standing in Jammu and Kashmir. It is ready to face the most difficult challenges of nature.” This bridge is not only a technical miracle, but is also considered a major step in connecting Jammu and Kashmir to the rest of India.

Specialty of Chenab Bridge

The bridge is about 1.31 km long and its height is 35 meters more than the Eiffel Tower. It is a steel -made Arch Bridge, built by Ultra Construction, VSL India and Facon’s Infrastructure. The project was implemented by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited. The movement of trains between Chenab Bridge to Bakkal and Kauri in Reasi district will be possible. Along with this, this bridge will also improve connectivity between Katra and Banihal.

Bridge built at a cost of 1,486 crore

The earlier Chenab Bridge was scheduled to be inaugurated on April 19, but due to bad weather, it will now be postponed on 6 June 2025. In this regard, the Railway Ministry shared an official information on the social media platform X (East Twitter) on 16 April. Chenab Bridge, built at a cost of Rs 1,486 crore, is special in many ways. Steel used in it can tolerate temperatures ranging from 10 ° C to 40 ° C. This bridge can stand firmly even in difficult weather like earthquakes and strong winds.
