Prior to the war, Hazam Lubbad was a university student, who supported his studies while working as a waiter in a restaurant in Gaza City. For the last 19 months, he has been descending with his expanded family at Sheikh Redwan, a neighborhood in the north -west of Gaza city.
Several neighboring areas, such as Beat Lahia and Jabalia, have been ordered to ’empty’ and move south by the Israeli army. The region has a continuous Israeli aerial attack and shelling, the residents say, as well as a desperate conflict to find enough food. Walking around the area is also dangerous.
In a video message from Gaza, 21-year-old Palestinian said, “What do we provide, a meal in a day, from morning to late night. Sometimes it has this lentil; sometimes it is pasta.”
Labbad said that food has been in less supply throughout the war. Now, after the 11 -week blockade affected by the Israeli government, some food has been started in Gaza, but the residential says it is not reaching the north.
Israel closed the crossing and stopped all aid delivery in Gaza on 2 March. Israeli officials said that without giving evidence to the claim, stealing and using assistance to supply their own fighters. Hamas, who is in charge of Gaza, is considered a terrorist group by Israel, Germany, America and many other countries.
Citizens faced daily struggle for food
Lubbad said, “There is no flour for a month and a half. A kilo of flour on the black-market is 80–100 Shekel (about € 20-24 or $ 22-28), and the situation we live in does not allow us,” now because of war. Lubbad said that he had set up a basic solar-operated phone charging station, where people could recharge their phone in exchange for money.
“Without this money, there is no income,” Heer said. This means that he cannot take the risk of buying a lot in the markets, where prices touch the sky. According to the residential, some of the recent assistance entering Gaza was robbed by desperate and hungry people. Other people are selling food at inflated prices.
Israel has not allowed foreign journalists to be allowed in Gaza as it launched his war in 2023 after Hamas terror attacks, so DW often has to rely to talk to Ghazan over the phone.
Residents in the north are also looking scary on the news of almost deleting of people trying to reach food distribution sites in Southern Gaza. Thesis sites are run by a private American-Israeli company called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) and secured by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The United Nations and other humanitarian organizations have rejected the new food distribution system, arguing that it will reduce the needs of Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants and allow Israel to use food to control the population. There are no distribution sites in Northern Gaza and it will be too far and dangerous for people in the north to reach the subject.
The United Nations stated that it is related to bringing a limited number of trucks with flour, which is allowed only to be distributed by Israel to bakers, as well as some other supply, medical objects and child food.
An-Oka talks about ‘deprives by design’
