Trump Imposes Travel Ban on 12 Nations: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a complete travel ban for citizens of 12 countries and partial sanctions for citizens of seven other countries. The purpose of which is to strengthen national security amid increasing concerns. Trump recently cited the events of colloido boulder that inspired him to take quick action. Authorities allegedly blamed a person living in the country for these incidents. This order is a new version of Trump’s immigration agenda, which he extended during his first term. Its purpose is to prevent a possible bounce in immigration.
Travel ban is a Federal Policy that prevents or banned citizens of specific countries from entering the US. Restrictions may vary. From full entry ban to limited suspension of specific visa categories. Trump’s latest announcement is the revival of his first term policy. Under which the journey of people of many countries was banned. Five countries affected by it are visible again in this new list.
The ban has been imposed a few days after the deadly attack in the boulder of Colorado. Which was allegedly carried out by an Egyptian citizen. However, Egypt is not included in the ban. But President Trump has quoted this attack as reminding the risks generated by those who live longer than the visa period or come from countries with poor screening practices.
In the order, countries are divided into two categories. Those who are fully under travel restrictions and they are facing visa restrictions. Most of these countries are located in Africa, Middle East and Latin America.
The Trump administration gave three main reasons for the travel ban-
High rate of staying over 2 visa periods: Countries such as Myanmar, Chad, Congo Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Burundi, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo and Turkmenistan were included, as a large number of citizens stayed for more than the visa period in the US.

The order of the White House states that the ban will give exemption to the green card holders. These include people who have a way to get American citizenship. People having dual citizenship have also been exempted, one of America and the other of a banned country. It has been said in the order that it will not have any effect on the visa seeking visa through family relations of American citizens. Given that the US will host the Olympics in the World Cup in 2026 and Los Angeles in 2028. Athletes and coaches traveling for sports events will still be allowed to enter the country with their families. The refugees who have already received shelter have also been exempted. The Afghan citizens who support the US government during the decades of war after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 also come under this exemption. People from Iranians, especially Christians, who have avoided religious harassment, have also been exempted from the ban.
How different from the 2017 travel ban?
Shortly after assuming office in 2017, Trump presented an executive order banning travel from seven Muslim -majority countries. The order is widely known as ‘Muslim restrictions’, which gave rise to chaos, legal challenges and nationwide protests at airports. Over time, the ban developed through several changes. Finally it was retained by the Supreme Court in 2018. Unlike the 2017 ban, the new announcement provides a short period before it comes into force. It also includes some specific discounts.
