The group’s holding company Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the family of those who died in the accident through a statement. The statement said that we are very sad about the tragic incident related to Air India Flight 171.

A plane of Air India, going from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick at 1.38 pm on Thursday, crashed into Meghani Nagar area near the airport after a few moments of flying from Ahmedabad Airport. The plane crashed over the hostels of doctors and staff of the Plain BJ Medical College and Sadar Hospital, and residential quarters. A part of the plane was out of the five -storey building. On hitting the building, there was a blast -like sound and the plane and the building caught fire. Several cars and other vehicles parked in the hospital-college campus were also in the grip of fire.

A statement issued by N Chandrasekaran on the X handle of the Tata Group said that the grief we are feeling at this time cannot be described in words. Our condolences and prayers are with families who have lost their loved ones and who have been injured. The Tata group will give a assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of every person who lost his life in this tragedy. Apart from this, the group will also bear the cost of treatment of those injured in the accident.
The statement said that we would ensure that the injured get all the necessary care and help. Apart from this, BJ will also help in the construction of a medical college hostel. The Tata Group stands with the affected families and communities in this hour of grief. Chandrasekaran is also the chairman of Air India.
