Ahmedabad plane crash: Air India aircraft, which fly from Ahmedabad Airport to Gatvik Airport in London, has crashed AI-171. The aircraft had 242 passenger riders. The aircraft was flying to London, when it crashed during the takeoff. According to Janakari, Air India flight number AI-171 flew at 1.38 pm. It crashed at 1.40 pm. The aircraft crashed near Meghaninagar area, adjacent to the airport campus. As soon as the aircraft fell, smoke was seen in the entire area. After this accident, there was chaos in the surrounding areas.

After the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah interacted with the Chief Minister of Gujarat and Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and assured all the necessary help. At the same time, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has left for Ahmedabad to take stock of the situation. At the same time, Air India confirmed through a post on X (East Twitter) that flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick AI-171, on 12 June 2025, fell victim to an accident. The spokesperson said that the investigation of the situation is going on and as soon as any new information is received, it will be shared on Air India website and social media.
Aircraft crashed in densely populated area
According to preliminary information, Air India flight AI-171 crashed in a densely populated area near Ahmedabad Airport. Soon after the accident, the local people came forward for help and supported the administration in relief and rescue operations. Regarding the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that the incident occurred with Air India’s Boeing 787 aircraft (Registration VT-ANB), which had left for London Gatwick from Ahmedabad on 12 June 2025. The accident occurred shortly after flying.
There were 10 crew members on board aircraft
The DGCA said in its statement that at the time of the accident, there were a total of 242 people in the aircraft, including 2 pilots, 10 cabin crew. The flight was commanded by Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who has an 8,200 -hour flight experience and is a line training Captain (LTC). He was accompanied by first officer Clive Kunder, whose total flight experience was 1,100 hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft flew from runway 23 of Ahmedabad Airport at 1:39 pm (IST) at 1:39 pm. A few moments after the take-off, the aircraft released a ‘Made’ call, but after that there was no more contact with ATC. Shortly, the aircraft crashed on the outskirts of the airport. Eyewitnesses and officials said that thick black smoke was seen rising from the accident site.
