In the worldwide network it is teeming with counterfeits and if you don’t take care of as a consumer, you can quickly fall into a fraud stitch when shopping online. As a protective measure, Trustpilot installed a number of new tools for recognizing fake reviews last year, including a AI-based solution.
In 2024, 90% of the recognized fake reviews were automatically removed by the corresponding Trustpilot models, reports the service provider in his “Trust Report”. With new technologies and specialists, 53% more reviews could have been removed automatically than in the previous year. According to the report, around 4.5 million fake reviews were recognized and deleted by the use of AI in 2024 – this corresponded to a share of 7.4% of all evaluated ratings (previous year 6.1%). One of the front places occupies in the ranking shopping and fashion: around 7.3 million fake reviews, which corresponds to an increase of 4%. Other divisions that were examined: Business service – here there was an increase of 16% to 8.3 million fake reviews, money and insurance by 25% to 6 million, house and garden by 9% to 5 million and electronics and technology by 26% to 5.2 million.
According to the report, Trustpilot now records over 300 million reviews – 61 million of which were published in 2024 alone. More consumers and companies than ever have been active on the platform: 22 million consumers wrote an assessment (plus 13%) for the first time in 2024 and 229,000 companies were rated for the first time (plus 35%).
