World No. 2 Tennis player Coco Goff has called upon social media companies to do more to deal with online misuse, describing comments that they receive as “gross”.
On Tuesday, the WTA Tour, which runs a female tennis, released a report, which made a widespread misuse for the purpose of online players. The report stated that most of the misuse came from dissatisfied gambler, with 15 cases so serious that law enforcement was involved.
The data provided by the tech company traced using AII, using AI that in 2024, around 458 players sent 8.000 “Abiv, violent or threatening” comments.
Speaking at the German Open at Berlin, Goff said it was a “given” that the players had to deal with online misuse.
“This is the worst. You can get,” he said. “The risk of death, to my family, myself. I have DM [direct message] My lover and friend about it. Racist comments, as you can imagine. Nudity, such things. This is a big thing we are running in tennis. ,
Arguments made for bookies and social media companies
In its report published with the International Tennis Federation, the WTA called for action against the individuals behind the misconduct from the gambling industry. But Goff stressed that social media companies play their role with shoulder.
“It’s something that we have to bring awareness,” he said. “I love to include some social media platforms, not only when it comes to tennis players. The affected, other athletes, they get all thesis comments, so this is something.
“I know the WTA is doing what they can make us feel preserved, but I definitely feel that many of these platforms can also step.”
Asked by DW whether she was confident that things could change, Goff said: “I think they can.”
“I think Tickek does a better job of filtering comments, so you don’t like to see it,” he said. “But Instagram, for me, is the worst with comment filtering. I basically see everything there. I try to do it on my account, to filter some words, but people become creative and take it out in different ways.
