Trump lauds PM modi: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (June 18) praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described him as a “brilliant person”. At the same time, Trump has confirmed that the two leaders spoke on the phone last night. However, Trump once again claimed to mediate the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This statement came when India said some time ago that there was a ceasefire after a direct talks between the armies of the two countries. Trump’s latest comment came after his conversation with PM Modi.
Prime Minister Modi, while rejecting Donald Trump’s claim to play the role of a mediator in stopping the struggle with Pakistan, told the US President on Wednesday that India and Pakistan had stopped military action last month after direct talks between their armies without any mediation. A few hours after a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Modi, on Wednesday, President Trump once again reiterated his old claim that he had stopped the war between India and Pakistan.
Talking to reporters in Washington, Trump was asked what he expected to get diplomatically during the visit of Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir to America. In response, he said that I have stopped the war between Pakistan. I love Pakistan. He said that I think Modi is a great person, I talked to him last night. We will make a trade agreement with Modi of India.
Trump said, “I stopped the war (between India and Pakistan). I love Pakistan. I think Modi is a great man. I talked to him last night. We are going to make a business agreement with Prime Minister Modi. I stopped the war between Pakistan and India. This person (Asim Munir) has played a very effective role in stopping it from Pakistan and Prime Minister Modi has played a very effective role in stopping it from India. India rejected Trump’s claims
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Wednesday that in a conversation with Trump on a phone on Tuesday for about 35 minutes, PM Modi clearly said that India does not accept mediation and will never accept. He said that negotiations between India and Pakistan forces started to stop military action at the request of Islamabad. The ceasefire between India and Pakistan was first announced by the US President on 10 May. Since then, Trump has been claiming that he meditated in the ceasefire agreement by threatening to stop trade with the two countries if he did not agree to stop the struggle.
The military clashes between India and Pakistan between May 7 and 10 were mentioned prominently during the phone conversation between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump. Egypti said, “Prime Minister Modi clearly told President Trump that there was no discussion on the Indo-US trade agreement at any level or any proposal of arbitration by the US between India and Pakistan at any level during this whole development.”

Sharing important things of Modi-Trump conversation, he said, “The discussion on stopping military action was directly discussed between India and Pakistan through the current dialogue channels of the armies of the two countries and it was initiated by Pakistan.” The Foreign Secretary said that PM Modi clearly stated that India does not accept arbitration nor will it ever. He also said that there is complete political consensus in India on this matter.
