New Delhi. A man from America’s Texas went on a honeymoon with his wife after a new marriage but he did not return to the couple. At the time of his wife’s birth, the bad conditions that her parents faced, now the daughter is suffering. The US immigration department detained him to his wife. Now his wife is so stuck in the legal clutches that it is very difficult to get out. The only fault of the wife is that she was born in a country where citizenship is not given on taking birth. Sakik, who belongs to the Refugee family of Philistin, was born in Saudi Arabia.
Later Sakik’s parents shifted to America. Her husband Tahir Sheikh said that his wife Ward Sakiq was detained by the Immigration Department in St. Thomas in February, while he had a green card application pending and also had documents of his stateless status. Sheikh told NBC DFW that he is considered a stateless, which means that you are born in a country that does not give you birthright. And since she was a Palestinian refugee born in Saudi Arabia, she was not recognized as a Saudi citizen.
Sheikh said that Sakik was only 8 years old when his family came to America on a visa. Although his asylum request was rejected, the lack of citizenship meant that the government could not deport him. Instead, they were placed under the order of monitoring and they needed to check in with immigration officers once a year. Since then, Sakik has graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington and now works as a marriage photographer. Sheikh said that he has always followed immigration rules for 14 years. At present, the wife has been kept in a detention center at the time. This is because his green card application is stalled due to custody.
The couple have spent the first month of their marriage, communicating through weekly meetings and video calls. He says he carefully decided to travel to the US Virgin Islands for his honeymoon as he was confident that it would not cause any harm to his pending immigration status. On the case of Sakek, the Immigration Department said that the truth is that she is living illegally in our country. The legal team of the couple is making every effort to prevent it from being deported. Although the stateless individuals are usually eligible for release after 90 days in the expulsion proceedings, Sakeiq has now been detained for more than 120 days.
The Immigration Department argues that the woman had a final order for expulsion from 2011. His appeal against the final order was rejected by the immigration appeal board on 12 February 2014. He has abolished his proper procedure rights and all his claims have been rejected by the courts for relief.
