Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Now traveling between Delhi to Meerut will be as easy and faster as the metro. The NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is going to start an 82 km long rapid rail service from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut soon. On Sunday, the trial run of Rapid Rail on the 82 km long track from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut in Delhi has been completed. During the trial time, this distance from Delhi to Meerut was fixed in less than an hour. Rapid rail is running on the 55 km track right now.
Corridor will start soon
Work on this entire corridor is almost complete and it is expected that trains will start running from the end of June or from early July. At present, trains are being run at 11 stations from New Ashok Nagar (Delhi) to Meerut South on this Rapid Rail Corridor, which is about 55 km. At the same time, this test is considered to be a major operational milestone for India’s first “Namo Bharat” Rapid Rail Service, which connects Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut fast and comfortable journey.
82 km full route trial
NCRTC said that during the test, the Namo Bharat trains ran without any interruption at a maximum speed of 160 km per hour on the entire 82 km route. The official statement said, “The trains completed the journey in less than an hour, stopping at every station from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in less than an hour.” One special thing in this trial was that the world’s first LTE network-based ETCs Level-3 hybrid signaling system was used for train operations. This technique was working completely in harmony with the platform screen door (PSD) installed at every station.
Work in the last phase of the corridor
NCRTC has said that trials and final work are being done rapidly on the remaining parts from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar (4.5 km) in Delhi and Meerut South to Modipuram (about 23 km) in Meerut. This is a significant progress towards the commencement of the entire Rapid Rail Corridor. To make people’s journey easier within the city of Meerut, the trial of Meerut Metro is also being done between Meerut South to Modipuram depot. According to NCRTC, this is the first time in the country when local metro services will run on the same track and system on which Namo Bharat trains are running.
The foundation was laid in 2019
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of this rapid rail project in March 2019 and now it has taken about six years to start completely. The speed of this project was especially seen from October 2023, when the first part of 17 km started from Sahibabad to Duhai. After this, in March 2024, a section of 17 km from Duhai to Modinagar North and then 8 km from Modinagar North to Meerut South was also opened to the common people. Now this entire corridor is ready to start.
