According to the US Think Tank The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), more than 40,000 US troops are currently deployed in the Middle East, many of them on ships. During the increase in the rear part of tension between Israeli and Iran, the number of soldiers is slightly lower than in October.
In the earlier years, there were very few American soldiers in the Middle East, which were around 30,000.
According to CFR’s recent observation, the US has military facilities and Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates – and beyond the military facilities.
American soldiers use large bases that are formally operated by allies, in Djibouti, in East Africa and NATO partners in Turkey.
The largest US Air Force presence is the Al-Fooded Airbase in Qatar, which was recently targeted by Iran with missiles. Powered by the Qatari Air Force, the Airfield is therefore used by the British and Australian Air Force, as well as the US Army. Connecting all places together, the American armed forces are temporarily or permanently deployed at about 30 locations in the Middle East.
Safety and intervention
The presence of American soldiers in the region is often associated with previous deployment. The United States has operated several bases in Kuwait since the Gulf War in the early 1990s, when, Iraq attacked its small oil -producing neighbor and was removed by the US forces.
After the second Iraq in 2003, the United States maintained its presence at two places, partially to protect the Kurdish and Yazidi population in the northern region of Arbil.
So American soldiers are still found in neighboring Syria: in the south and in the north of the Kurdish. In 2015, during the Civil War, the United States began deploying special forces in the Rozwa region, mainly inhabited by the Syrian Kurds. The Kurds faced excessive oppression by the terrorist organization “Islamic State” during the Civil War.
So far, Iran is limited to its rather symbolic attack on Al-Fooded. The number of casualties survived as Tehran has already alerted the United States, and missiles were clearly stopped by air defense.
It is suspected whether Iran could threaten American troops in the region whether a scale with ballistic missiles, missiles and drone experts Fabian Hinz told DW.
Hinz, who conducts research for the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), mentions the United States reports that Iran can produce 50 ballistic missiles every month.
“Although this is a considerable production rate, it is still not the current rate of Iran’s fire,” he said that-Whitch means that wood reduces its stock in mid-June since the attack on Israel.
