There is good news for farmers of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Farmers get good prices for pulses crops, so the central government has decided that it will buy moong and urad from Madhya Pradesh from farmers at minimum support price (MSP). Also, urad will be procured from farmers of Uttar Pradesh on MSP. This information was given in a government statement on Tuesday.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan approved this purchase under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) after meeting with the Agriculture Ministers of both the states. Under this scheme, crop is procured when prices in the market go below MSP.
In May this year, the central government increased the MSP for various kharif crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. These crops also included urad and moong. MSP was increased by Rs 400 to Rs 7,800 per quintal for Urad. At the same time, MSP for moong was increased by Rs 86 to Rs 8,768 per quintal.
Farmers have to benefit
During the meeting, Chauhan said that the decision to purchase moong and urad will put a lot of financial burden at the Center. But still the central government is committed to ensure that farmers get benefits. For this, it is very important that the purchase should be done correctly. By direct procurement from farmers, the activation of middlemen will be reduced and the benefit will reach the farmer in the true sense.
Chauhan instructed the officials to use the latest and most effective technologies for proper registration of farmers. He advised to increase the number of procurement centers if needed and complete the entire process in a fair and transparent manner.
With this technique, sowing of soybean, bumper will be yielded along with profits
Concrete steps should be taken on the issue of irregularity in storage
Chauhan also discussed the procurement logistics with Agriculture Ministers and issued necessary instructions to Nafed, National Cooperative Consumer Association (NCCF) and state officials. Nafed and NCCF purchase crops on behalf of the central government. On complaints of irregularities in storage, Chauhan asked ministers and officials to take concrete steps to resolve the issue. The meeting was attended by Madhya Pradesh Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Aidal Singh Kansana, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Union Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and other senior officials.
