A very shocking case has come to light from Krishnganj in West Bengal, where a family ‘funeral’ the ‘funeral’ of his live son, that too because he married a boy of another religion. Declaring the girl as “dead”, the family performed her shraddh with her traditional Hindu customs, in which the heads of the family were also shaved. He also organized the funeral banquet for neighbors and relatives.
According to a report in the Times of India, the family, who hails from Khatura Uttarapara area of Krishnaganj, wanted his daughter to be married to the boy he had chosen for him. The discussion about marriage had already started, when the girl loved another person and decided to marry against the will of her parents.
She is a first year student at Krishnaganj Sudhir Ranjan Lahiri College and has run away with this person before. However, the family brought him back and soon selected the groom with the intention of getting her married.
This time she again ran away from home and married her lover, which made her family even more angry. When the girl talked about living with her husband, her father was told about her decision, who is currently working in Israel. In response, he expressed deep grief and finally decided to abandon him.
He, along with the family, cremated her daughter 12 days after her marriage. Apart from this, he also burnt all the items including his clothes, books and documents.
Girl’s mother said- she has humiliated us
Quoting the Times of India, his uncle said, “He left no way to us. He insulted the family. So, following our tradition, we consider him dead.”
Angered by his antics, he also said that the family could not forgive him to escape again, especially when he was brought back home first.
The woman’s mother also said some similar things about her daughter. He reiterated that his daughter was killed for him, so it was done. This funeral is the answer to his work. The mother said, “She has humiliated us. This is our way to register protest.”
According to the report, after marriage, the woman is now safe with her husband and in -laws. So far no party has filed a police complaint. The family’s decision to renounce his daughter and declare her “dead” has put many people in deep shock, including the neighborhood.
