The Hague. After the pressure of US President Donald Trump, NATO leaders on Wednesday agreed to huge increase in defense spending and repeated their ‘firm commitment’ to assist each other in case of attack. In a statement of the summit, 32 leaders involved in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said, “The associate countries are committed to spending five percent of the gross domestic product every year on the main defense requirements by 2035 to ensure their personal and collective obligations.”
The announcement stated that members will present “annual plans” to prove a reliable, older passage “to reach this goal with more comprehensive review of the progress made in 2029. The five-citizen declaration also includes a line confirming the “firm commitment to the collective defense contained in Article 5 of the 32 countries-that one attacks one”.
The document includes a line promising more support to Ukraine and it is said that its “safety contributes to our security”, but stops before Russia directly condemned. However, it consists of a different line on “long-term threats generated by Russia for Euro-Alantic security”.
