A former head of Venezuela’s military intelligence convicted drug smuggling and drug allegations a week before the United States court began in a federal court.
Hugo Karvajal – A close aide of the late President of the country Hugo Chavez – on Wednesday convicted four criminal cases, including drug conspiracy, cocaine, and a conspiracy to import allegations of weapons.
The prosecution accused the retired Chief General of leading a cartel made from senior Venezuela military officers who tried to “flood” the US with cocaine in collusion with the leftist guerrillas from the neighboring Colombia.
The 65 -year -old man has to face the maximum punishment of life in jail.
Karvajal’s sentence is slaughtered for October.
Powerful figure
For “The Chicken” “El Polo,” Spanish, Karvajal advised Chavez for more than a decade and is considered one of the most powerful figures of the socialist leader’s rule.
The SpiMaster later broke to support the US -backed political opposition with the elected successor of the current President Nicolas Maduro, Chavez.
In 2023, Karvajal extradited what was extradited from Spain after the leg on the US law enforcement for more than 10 years.
