British authorities on Saturday announced the seizure of 2.4 MT on the London Gateway Port with an estimated price of 96 million pounds (€ 112 million or 132 million).
According to the UK’s Home Office of the UK’s Interior Ministry, it is the sixth largest seizure of cocaine since the records started.
What do we know about the seizure?
A huge race of cocaine was found on a ship coming from Panama under dozens of shipping containers.
The home office said that expert officials discovered the shipment earlier this month. With the help of a port operator, he transferred 37 large containers to reach the Stash.
Charlie Eastagh, director of the UK Border Force Maritime, said the seizure “is the only example of how the dedicated border force maritime officer is one step ahead of the criminal gangs that put a danger.”
“Our message for thesis criminals is more obvious than ever, we are using intelligence and international law enforcement cooperation to disrupt and disrupt our operations.”
Cocaine related deaths increase
According to Eastgh, container ships are a primary means by which criminal organizations smuggle cocaine in the United Kingdom.
The UK government says that cocaine -related deaths in England and Wales increased between 2022 and 2023. The National Crime Agency (NCA) reports that Britain is one of the largest cocaine markets in Europe.
Last February, British authorities seized 5.7 tonnes of cocaine at the port of Southampton, Southern England. The NCA stated that officials believe that drugs “for further delivery” for the German city of Hamburg.
