Thai protesters urged Shinavatra to queue dispute – DW – 06/28/2025

Thousands of protesters on Saturday held a rally in Bangkok on a border dispute with Cambodia to demand the resignation of Thailand Prime Minister Patongtern Shinavatra on Saturday.

Bangkok police said that despite the monsoon rains in the afternoon, around 17,000 protesters were shown.

He chanting “Anag, Get Out” using the Prime Minister’s surname.

One of the protest leaders, Parnthep Pourpongpan said, “He should step on one side because that is the problem.”

Saturday’s opposition is conducted by a nationalist group known as a joint force. In the past, the group has a rally against previous governments led by various members of the Shinavatra family.

Why do the protesters want Patongtern Shinavatra to resign?

Patongtern faced a disgruntled faction over its operation of handling a border dispute with Cambodia around a historic Buddhist temple.

The dispute rose on May 28 when a border clash between Thai and Cambodian forces occurred. A Cambodian soldier was killed in the incident.

In the next days, a phone call between Patongtern and former Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen, which meant that the press was leaked to reduce stress.

Paetongtarn was accused of OT Coveting for Cambodian MP in a call, calling him “uncle” and referred to a Thai military commander in the border area as his opponent.

He later apologized for the comments.

Cambodia Pris Claims for Vihier Temple

In 1962, the International Court of Justice ruled that the area around Priya Vihier Temple was from Cambodia.

The temple was a site of clashes in 2013. In 2013, the United Nations court confirmed its earlier verdict.

Hun Sen on Saturday accused the Thai army of severe violation of Cambodia’s sovereign sovereignty in the last month’s border clash.

“This poor Cambodia is suffering from foreign invasion, war and genocide, surrounded and isolated and humiliated in the past, but now Cambodia has increased on the same face with other countries,” Hey said in a speech in the 74th anniversary of the establishment of his long-lasting Cambodian People’s Party.
