Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is currently in controversy about his film ‘Sardar Ji 3’. The film creates a ruckus about the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Amid this controversy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has supported Diljit and said that the politics being done on him should stop. BJP says that Diljit Dosanjh is not just an artist but a global representative of India’s cultural heritage and it is wrong to question him.
The film ‘Sardar Ji 3’ was released abroad on June 27, but was not released in India. The film’s producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu said that he stopped the release of the film in India, as he did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings after the recent Pahalgam terror attack. He also said that this decision is expected to cause about 40 percent loss of the film’s earnings.
The controversy over the film deepened when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding strict action against Diljit Dosanjh. FWICE even said that Diljit’s citizenship should be canceled, as she has done the film with the Pakistani actress.
On this, BJP’s national spokesperson R.K. P. Singh made a statement in support of Diljit on the social media platform X. He wrote that Diljit Dosanjh is not only a respected artist, but also the messenger of India’s cultural identity.
R. P. Singh said that the demand for FWICE is completely inappropriate and exaggerated. He said that the film was shot before the Pahalgam attack, and if people have objections, they can boycott the film. But it is absolutely wrong to question an artist’s patriotism and cancel his citizenship.
He taunted that recently India had played a cricket match against Pakistan, then no organization objected. Pakistani guests are also called on TV channels – should the citizenship of those journalists be canceled now?
BJP’s Punjab Culture Cell Convenor and Punjabi actor Hobby Dhillon also supported Diljit Dosanjh in a press conference in Chandigarh. He said that Diljit is the pride of Punjab and India and it is unfortunate to target him.
He made it clear that the film was made completely under the legal process and the shooting took place when there was no restriction on cultural exchange between India and Pakistan. The shooting was not just Diljit but many artists.
Hobby Dhillon said that when the country is fighting terrorism today, some people are trying to discredit artists like Diljit through false allegations. He described the demand of FWICE as politically motivated and completely baseless.
Finally, he said that Diljit is the son of the soil of this country, and not only Punjab, the whole of India stands with him. He also added that patriotism is in every citizen, but it is completely wrong to target any one artist.
