German internal minister Alexander Dobrid was banned on Sunday by the Center-Left Social Democratic Party (SPD) to ban cold water on a proposal to ban the option for Germany (AFD) party.
Dobrindt is a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Bavarian Sister Party, Conservative Christian Social Union (CSU), which leads a coalition government with SPD.
Close to its three-day Congress in Berlin, SPD sent a proposal for preparations to ban remote AFDs, after the SPD classified as a “right-wing extremist” group by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency.
The designation has been pending a legal challenge by AFD.
In a statement by the news agency DPA, the Green Party said it agrees with the position of SPD.
Speaking to the “Table.Today” podcast on Sunday, Dobrindt said “The decisions made at the SPD party conference are not yet a mandate for the internal minister.”
Dobrindt IMSTEAD called for a cautouus approach and allowed the legal process to play out.
Heer will address a federal state internal minister’s work group AFD issue if the “right -wing extremist” designation remains in the court.
The Working Group is waiting for a verdict from the Coalone administrative court whether it agrees with the designation “extremist”.
Dobrindt, as well as Chancellor Frederick Merz (CDU), earlier stated that they doubt to ban AFD, who are known for their nationalist, anti-immigration, Muslim and euroseptic policies.
AFD has increased in popularity to become Germany’s largest opposition party in the last decade.
