German prosecutors said on Tuesday that a Danish citizen had been arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran.
According to prosecutors, the suspicious objective of the man was to collect information about Jewish sites and individuals in Berlin.
What do we know about the alleged espionage?
According to the prosecution, the person allegedly spied on three properties in June 2025, making him preparing for further intelligence activities, possibly a terrorist attack on Jewish goals.
The sites and individuals were not included in the statement, although a report by the German magazine mirror Said the suspect took photographs of homes including the headquarters of the German-Israel Society (DIG), a German-wide organization that promotes relations with Israel.
The report states that the person received orders from the Foreign arm of QUDS force, revolutionary guards, which supported militant groups classified as terrorist organizations in Germany, such as Hamas and Hizbullah, as well as Hauthis in Yemen.
Prosecutors said that in the German capital, “man had received an order from an Iranian intelligence service to collect information about Jewish areas and specific Jewish persons”.
According to the German privacy law, the person was identified only as Ali S. He was arrested in the city of Danish in Aarhas with the help of local police, according to the prosecutors.
The Iranian embassy has not yet responded to the allegations.
What is the security situation for Jewish sites in Germany?
While the ceasefire between Iran and Israel is getting caught in hold, Western intelligence agencies believe that Iran is still trying to attack Jewish and Israel’s goals in Western countries.
In Germany, where Jewish sites are frequently preserved by the presence of police due to the possibility of attacks, security was carried forward after the war between Israel and Iran.
Germany is one of the closest colleagues in Israel, while its relations with Iran are rather tense.
In October 2024, all the three Iranians in Germany were closed in response to the execution of Iran-German prisoner Jamshid Sharmhad, which leaves the Iranian embassy in Berlin as the ondical representation of Tehran in the country.
