3 African union helicopters killed in crash – DW – 07/02/2025

An African union helicopter crashed around 7:30 am around 7:30 am around 7:30 pm at the Aden Abdul International Airport of Mogadishu, killing three people.

According to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (Australian), it left the Bledogle Military Airbase in the Lower Shable area in South Somalia.

What do we know about the accident

St.om stated that “three of the eight passengers on the board were immediately rescued” and was rushed to the hospital.

The military helicopter was originally belonging to the Uganda Air Force, but was currently being operated as part of the Australian peace -keeping mission.

A military spokesperson from Uganda said that the impact of the accident caused ammunition to explode ammunition on the board, destroy the nearby structures and injure three citizens.

The African Union helps Somali officials fight the Islamist group al-Shabab.

The search and rescue operations were going on to recover the remaining passengers and the crew.

Ahmed Molim Hasan, Director General of Somalia Civil Aviation Authority, told reporters that investigation is going on to determine the cause of the accident.

The airport is operational.
