Dozens of dead after heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh – DW – 07/04/2025

Officials of Himachal Pradesh state of India said on Friday that 37 have been killed due to continuous heavy rains. Another 26 people killed in road accidents, Indian daily Hindustan Times Informed

The mountainous northern state in the western Himalayas has been experiencing torrential rains and cloudburst since last week, causing damage to homes, vehicles and other property.

State Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu posted on X, “Due to torrential rains, cloudbursts and landslides in the region, daily life has been disrupted in several AEAS, including Thunag and Janzeli in Mandi district.”

Rain to continue till 7 July

Mandi district has been the most affected, with 40 people missing.

Tanuja Thakur, a state of Shimla, the state capital, said, “It is raining heavy rains. The water is entering our classrooms; our clothes and books are soaking. Our teachers are telling us that it is better to stay at home.”

The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) said that the thesis situation was expected to continue and a rain warning was issued for the state by 7 July.

“We have recorded more than 400 crores ($ 46 million or € 39 million) in the loss so far, as recorded in our system. But the actual damage is likely to be very high. At this time our primary attention is on search, defense and restoration,” DC Rana, State Disaster Management Authority and Revenue Department’s characteristics said on Wednesday.

Many roads are blocked across the state and electricity and water supply has been done.

Rana said, “These incidents are a result of global warming and climate change. These effects are not Himakal.”
