South Korea Dressive North Korean Border Crosser – DW – 07/04/2025

The South Korean army expanded a person crossing the border from North Korea, the Joint Chief of Staff said on Friday.

The person crossed near the middle-west section of the military demori, which sits on the exactly half the way within the Dimilitarian region that divides the Korean peninsula on Thursday.

JCS said in a text message to reporters, “The army identified the person in the MDL area and conducted a general operation for the guide (person) and secured them.”

The army confirmed that the person is in custody and the relevant law would be subject to investigation by enforcement agencies, but did not immediately say whether they see the incident as an attempt to a defection.

Joint chiefs said no unusual action was taken by the North Korean Army.

South Koreans have been blamed by about 34,000 North Koreans since the Korean War in the 1950s.

However, less North Korean people have recently bee to successfully cross DMZ.

It is a 248 kilometers (155 miles) long, 4 kilometers wide border, in addition to the thorny fence, is preserved by land mines, tank nets and troops fighting on both sides.

Border tension has increased in recent months. North Korea has sent thousands of balloons, which are filled with garbage in South Korea.

South Korean President Lee J. tried to rebuild the trust with North after assuming office last month, including the closure of loudspeakers who destroyed the campaign against North Korea along with Seema.
