At least 13 people have been killed, and more than 20 children in a summer camp have gone missing after a deadly flood of torrential rains with the Guadalup River in the US state of Texas.
Hundreds of emergency crews, helicopters and drones are scattered in the county.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott shared a video on social media in which a victim is being saved from a tree, which is swinging a response from a helicopter, as the flood waters fell down.
Girls of summer camp among missing people
Dan Patrick, Governor of Lieutenant, Texas, stated that the Gwadalup River increased 26 feet (8 m) within 45 minutes, which during the rapid bottom of this area.
Patrick said that “about 23” girls were unaware of the Camp Mystic on the banks of the river.
“This does not mean that they are lost. They can be in a tree, they can be out of communication,” he said.
Although most of the 750 campers were safe, officials said they could not be extracted immediately as high water made the roads irreversible.
The camp director said that the site “had a continuous level of floods.”
Excess rainfall is forecast, and floods persist
Patrick said, “Even if the rain is light, there may be more floods in those areas.” “In addition to continuous risks in West and Central Texas, there is a threat to a possible flash flood from San Antonio to Wako for the next 24 to 48 hours.”
The Llano River flows through the adjacent Mason County which is allegedly running in the flood phase.
Ker County Sheriff Larry Leetha told reporters that 13 people were found dead in floods in the area.
“I think there will be much more when it is over.”
Bachin has been roughly deployed by 500 rescue workers and 14 helicopters. Texas National Guard, US Coast Guard and Federal Emergency Management Agency are assisting in search and rescue efforts.
