German winemakers predict major negative consequences that the US should decide to implement tafs under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
The German Wine Institute (DWI) said, “If the danger American sponative tafs are fully influenced, it provokes disintegration in international liquor markets.”
For DWI spokesperson Ernst Busher, as a result of 25% tariff offered during Trump’s first, there was a loss of more than 20% in revenue for German liquor manufacturers.
11%of the total volume of Germany’s liquor exports (equivalent to 118 million liters), the US is the most important export market for German wine, a period of low tariff is used to ship as much alcohol as possible on the other side of the Atlantic with exporters.
While German wineyards are searching for alternative markets, Busher said that it may take several years to establish a relationship with importers, retailers or restaurants.
