Ukraine’s President Volodimier Zelanski met with two American senators on Thursday night to discuss his country’s air defense and strict sanctions against Russia.
In a post on social media, Zelancesi said that Republican Senator Lindsay Graham, South Carolina, and a Democratic Senator of Connecticut, Richeurmental, on the edge of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome.
Graham and Blutenal are co-co-producers of a bilateral bill that calls for 500% tariffs from countries that are still buying Russian oil, gas and uranium in other exports.
The bill will target countries such as China and India, which make up about 70% of Russian energy for exports, helping Moscow funds, in Ukraine.
“Undoubtedly, this is the exactly the lever that can shut down peace and make diplomacy meaningful,” Zelksi said.
“Right now, our priority is strengthening air rescue. Russia wants to move forward to use 1,000 drones in an attack space,” he said.
“This is an important thermfor to promote rescue, especially to invest in interceptor drones. We talked about continuous supply from the United States and joint arms production.”
Zelansky said Ukraine was ready to work closely with his European colleagues to buy “large US defense packages”.
On Thursday, Zelansky said Ukraine had signed an agreement to buy two American-made Patriot missile defense systems with Germany for Berlin.
The White House said on 1 July that it was stopping some air defense and accurately directed arms ships that were caused by Ukraine, but this week appeared to reverse the course between Russia’s ongoing and intensive airstrikes.
