Tether will eliminate USDT in 5 cryptocurrencies

Tether, the USDT stablecoin issuing company, announced that as of September 1, 2025, the support of its cryptocurrency will cease in five cryptocurrency networks: OMNI, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, Eos and Algorand. Communicated on July 11, 2025, the decision responds to a strategic review of the company’s infrastructure.

This change will affect customers and users who maintain USDT in these networks, who They must redeem or migrate their tokens to other supported chains. The measure is part of an effort to optimize resources and focus on networks with greater activity and community support, according to a Tether statement.

The company explained that The low adoption and poor interest of developers in these five networks motivated the decision. According to Tether, maintaining USDT in networks with little activity implies an operational cost that is not justified in the face of the evolution of the global cryptocurrency ecosystem.

“The elimination of support for these chains allows us to focus on platforms that offer greater scalability, activity of developers and community participation, all key components to boost the next wave of adoption of stable currencies.”

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether.

Thus, the company seeks to concentrate on more robust and active chains, such as Ethereum, Solana or Tron, which represent most transactions with USDT.

The support cessation implies that, as of the date indicated, Tether will stop the redemption of USDT in these networks and freeze the lagging tokens. To mitigate the impact on users, the company urged USDT holders to act quickly.

“Tether customers who have USD ₮ in OMNI, Kusama, SLP, EOS and Algorand must redeem their holdings as soon as possible or, if you wish, request the USD emission ₮ in a supported blockchain, according to our service terms,” says the statement. This recommendation underlines the need for users to take measures before the deadline to avoid losses or complications.

The choice of these five networks is not arbitrary. Omni, one of the first to support USDT in 2014, has seen a significant decrease in its use. Bitcoin Cash SLP, meanwhile, failed to maintain a solid user base against others. Kusama, known as the Polkadot experimental network, faces similar limitations, while EOS and Algorand have lost relevance to the rise of other networks.

Tether customers and users who have USDT in these networks They will have until September 1, 2025 to redeem or migrate their tokens.

While this news especially affects customers that emit volume of USDT through Tether, the measure could affect retail users, who could see their ability to move and liquidate the stablecoins after the retirement of the support to OMNI, Kusama, SLP, EOS and ALGORAND.
