US, European Union Express concern after Israel’s attacks on Damascus – DW – 07/16/2025

The Israeli army hit the target in the Syrian capital Damascus on Wednesday, as Israel has claimed that its military intervention aims to protect the Syrian Drews Minorities.

Israeli defense forces said, “The IDF killed the Syrian regime’s entrance in the Syrian region in Syria.” Two Israeli attacks were carried out in the area.

This is the third day in a row that Israel started air strikes on Syria.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katj said on the social media platform X, “The warning to Damascus is over – now a painful explosion will come.”

Clashes between the Bedouin Sunni tribes and the Drews community broke up in Suveda, the southern Syrian province on Sunday. On Monday, the Syrian government deployed troops for Suveda, along with the Syrian army to fight with the Drew Militia.

The UK -based Syrian Observatory for the Human Rights Organization said that at least 300 people have been killed in southern Syria since the struggle on Sunday.

Drews are a small ethnic-religious group in the Middle East that mainly lives in Syria, Lebanon and Israel.

Between the clashes, Drews in Israel have attempted to enter Syria to help the Drews militia groups, with members of the Syrian Drews community to go to Israel again.
