Far-right forces in Japan on Sunday hoped to capitalize on increasing immigration concerns as the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba Brace for a difficult election.
Japanese are ready to vote for more than half of the 248 seats in the councilors of the country, which are the upper chambers of the Japanese Parliament. The LDP and allid Komito party of Isaba needs to win at least 50 of those seats to maintain their majority. But even it can be very clearly high between LDP’s tombing popularity.
While LDP is considered conservative, voters see it as going to more center positions in recent years. Now, Ishiba is closing attacks from unknown nationalist parties such as Sanseyo and Japan’s Conservative Party, whose immigration policies are similar to a distant option for the Maga movement of Germany (AFD) or Donald Trump in the US.
The government of Japan wants 60 million foreign tourists per year
Michael Cook, professor of politics and international relations at the Tokyo campus of Temple University, says that the part of the forces anti-forearm spirit causes destruction by uncontrolled tourists in the first Seren back roads of Kyoto and other traditional towns.
“Weak yen has brought millions of foreign tourists and all Japanese see that they are groups of tourists who arrive with their suitcases in Air B&B apartments in the cool neighborhood, are making noise and do not follow the rules of properly disposing of waste,” Hey.
According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, 21.51 million tourist arrival in the first half of 2025 increased by 21% in the same period last year. Officers are estimating more than 40 million arrival by the end of the year, with the nation to meet the government’s goals of 60 million foreign visitors annually in 2030 with the country.
Visitors triggers displeasure
Increasing the number of tourists can help the national economy, but with the strict cultural norms of Japan, many trips breed resentment if their behavior is robbers, thoughtless or demanding. Incidents of discovery by Japanese media are raised forever.
The media is so early to report on crimes committed by foreigners living in Japan. A lot of four were formed by the arrest of a group of Vietnamese, who entered Japan on a tourist visa in 2024, but spent the next two weeks traveling across the country to steal clothes from the Uniclow series branches of clothing shops.
In other places, foreigners have been accused of stealing cars for component, taking crops from farmers’ fields, women who are sexually abused and a Plathora.
Is foreign workers welcome in Japan?
The protector of immigration states that Japanese businesses are crying for labor as the birth rate falls and the number of elderly people increases. But the founder of far-flung Sanseito Party, Sauhi Kamiya, says “Japan should not trust foreign workers.”
“Our situation is that we will accept with skills for a certain period on understanding that they are not immigrants and will have to leave after a certain period,” Kamiya said at a press conference in Tokyo two weeks ago.
The politician said that “Japan should be run by taking advantage of Japanese capabilities,” and that the party will tolerate the foreigners who follow the law and traditions of the country, but that they have no place in Japan.
According to Kamiya, many foreign laboratories that have been brought to Japan have escaped from their approved work sites quickly “and loaded to the criminal organization to make money, discovered through robbery.”
“The population of Japan is currently expected to fall from around 120 million, but even if it is up to 80 million – similar to Germany – then there will be people to maintain the country.”
Chinese government ‘deliberately colonies of Japan’
Japan’s similarly correct -inclined conservative party shares several positions of Yoi Shimda, Sansito, a legalist for the right -lended orthodox party and says that one of his concerns is national purchasing land and property in Japan.
“Amir Chinese is the biggest problem,” Hey claimed. “They are buying land and apartments across Tokyo and across the country and this is a concern because it is impossible to be rich in China without the support of the Chinese Communist Party.”
“The Chinese government is deliberately creating a colony of Japan and is a security threat,” he told DW, stating that Chinese individuals or corporations show records to buy land close to strategic military bases in Japan as stress between the two Asian countries increases.
Mimics
Hiromi Murakamy, professor of political science at the Tokyo campus of Temple University, says Japan’s right has been “inspired” by Trump’s success of “US First” campaigns, in which Sansito also copied that slogan with “Japanese first”.
“Thesis is similar to the Maga movement in many ways and based on the concept of Japanese uniqueness,” she said. “Really, of course, it is that the immigrants have legally benefited the Japanese economy due to lack of our well -propagated laboratory, but the thesis echoes with those who want to promote the purity of the Japanese race.”
He raised the issue with a distant guilty migrants for increasing crime figures, indicating that 10,963 foreigners were arrested in 2020, but the figure fell to 9.726 arrests in 2023. From 2.75 million to 3.4 million.
Murakami said, “People are struggling with economic problems at home and it is easy to blame foreigners for problems in the society.” “There is an economic recession, prices are rising, there is a concern of American taffs, but it is easy for people to get their frustrations out on the firingrs.”
