The 27 member states of the European Union agreed to the 18th round of sanctions on Russia on their full -scale invasion of Ukraine on Friday.
Slovakia was taking decisions citing concerns over their gas imports. But Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said, he said that he had directed the representative to approve measures.
FICO stated that as a member of the European Union, there would be stronger “counter -protest” for Slovakia’s interests.
European Union, Germany, Ukraine welcome new sanctions
The European Union approved one of its strongest sanctions against Russia till date, “said Kaza Kalas, head of the European Union Foreign Policy.
“Each clearance weakens Russia’s ability to wage war. The message is clear: Europe will not return in its support for Ukraine. The European Union will continue to increase pressure until the European Union terminates Russia.”
Welcoming the package, German Chancellor Frederick Merz said in a post on X: It is good that we have now agreed to the 18th ban package against Russia in the European Union. ,
“It targets banks, energy and military industry. It weakens Russia’s ability to continue financing war against Ukraine.”
Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelancesi welcomed the sanctions.
He said on social media, “This decision is necessary and in time, in particular, a response to the fact that Russia has intensified the cruelty of attacks on our cities and villages.”
What are the new European Union restrictions on Russia’s goal?
The restriction package targets the financial and energy sectors of Moscow and the Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to agree to the unconditional ceasefire.
The European Union has agreed up to 15% below the market price to reduce the price cap on Russian oil exported to third countries. This means to reduce Russia’s income by banning shipping and insurance companies that allow Russia to sell over the cap.
Cap original was an G7 initiative, but the US is not a party for new sanctions of the European Union. European Union officials have admitted that this has weakened their influence.
Brussels in February 2022 have initiated Moscow’s full -scale invasion of Ukraine on a full scale.
More than 2,400 officers and “entries” have been hit with asset freeze and travel ban.
But every round of sanctions is getting difficult to agree, as measures targeting Russia start hitting the economies of 27 member states.
In May, the block targeted around 200 ships in Russia’s approval-busting shadow fleet of Russia’s tankers. Friday measures added another 100 ships to that list.
