An Indonesian passenger boat caught fire and killed at least five people on Sunday and injured hundreds of people, said the country’s Coast Guard. More than 280 others survived, several jumps to escape from overboard inforteions.
The Indonesian maritime security agency stated that KM Barcelona 5, from the capital of North Sulawesi province, was in the island district in the province – when it caught fire in the water near the applause, the Indonesian maritime security agency said.
The incident occurred a few weeks after the killing of at least 19 people when a boat broke away from Bali’s popular resort island.
“Five people were reported to be dead, two of which have been identified so far. Meanwhile, 284 people have been safely evacuated,” the agency, known as Bakmala, said in a statement.
Pregnant woman among the deceased
The rescue team rectified five bodies, including a pregnant woman, but there were no immediate details on other injuries, and there were no figures of passengers and crew members on the boat.
Photos and videos released by the National Search and Rescue Agency underlined the passengers, wearing most of the life jackets, jumping into the sea as flames and there are black smoke from the burning vessel.
Bakmala’s statement said that some passengers had to jump overboard with a life jacket.
Fishermen aided rescue operations
Thus many fishermen helped the victims to be evacuated into nearby islands. The injured were taken to the nearest health facility.
Sea phenomena often occur in the South East Asian archipelago of about 17,000 Icelands in the part due to suspected security standards or inclement weather.
In July, the drowning route for Bali for Bali was attributed to bad weather, in March, a boat carrying 16 people capiled to some water from Bali, an Australian woman died and injured on the last one.
In 2018, more than 150 people drowned when a boat sank in one of the world’s deepest lakes on Sumatra Island.
